NNPP Governorship Candidate Resigns from Party in Benue

Professor Bem Angwe, the candidate for the governorship position under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Benue for the 2023 general elections, has officially resigned from the party.

Mr. Angwe’s resignation was communicated through a personal letter he signed, which he addressed to the NNPP Ward Chairman of Mbatyu in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue.

Having previously served as the National Legal Adviser of the NNPP, Angwe decided to withdraw his membership from the party in anticipation of the upcoming NNPP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for August 29, 2023.

“I have taken into account the current state of affairs within the party, which is neither conducive nor beneficial for my continued membership.

I am eager to resume my professional academic pursuits and fully dedicate myself to the protection and advancement of human rights in Nigeria as we strive towards building a stronger and more equitable nation based on the principles of freedom, equality, and justice,” Mr. Angwe stated in his resignation letter.

“In line with the resolution of the party’s elders and stakeholders in my immediate community in Benue, who have advised me to withdraw my membership, and in accordance with the NNPP Constitution 2022 (as amended), I officially withdraw my membership from the NNPP as of this 26th day of August, 2023,” he added.

Mr. Angwe made it clear that he had informed the chairman of the Mbatyu NNPP Ward Executive Committee in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State about his decision to withdraw his membership from the party.

In expressing his gratitude, the former governorship candidate extended his thanks to the ward, local government, and state executives of the party for their unwavering support.

“I also wish to sincerely appreciate the members of my party, supporters, and well-wishers throughout Benue State and the entire nation for their tremendous support during my governorship campaigns,” Mr. Angwe said.

“I commend the courage and dedication of all those who believed in me and stood by my side until the end during this challenging period.

I assure you wholeheartedly that I will always keep you informed of my future endeavors,” he concluded.

Recall that the NNPP has recently faced internal turmoil, resulting in the suspension of the Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Dr. Boniface Aneibonam, and the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Agbo Major.
