FCT Set to Bring Back Monthly Sanitation to Maintain Cleanliness in Abuja – Minister Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has announced that the ministry has finalized plans to reintroduce monthly sanitation as part of their strategy to keep the city clean.

Wike made this statement on Monday in Abuja after a closed-door meeting with contractors responsible for various projects in the FCT.

He revealed that he had already discussed the idea with President Bola Tinubu, suggesting that at least two Saturdays per month would be designated for sanitation from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The implementation of this initiative would allow companies supporting the FCT with logistics to visit markets and other public places to remove refuse.

Emphasizing the need for cooperation, Wike stated, “For Abuja to remain clean, each individual must make sacrifices. There’s no escaping the fact that we all contribute to the refuse problem.”

He continued, “So, if you can spare three hours on a Saturday at home to clear your refuse and bring it out for us to dispose of, that would be the small contribution you can make to help. We are appealing to residents to cooperate with us in order to achieve our goals.”

Regarding streetlights, the minister acknowledged that improvements have been made. He assured, “Although we haven’t reached our target yet, I can guarantee that every part of Abuja will be properly illuminated.”

Wike also addressed the issue of the Abuja Master Plan, stating that measures to rectify the distortion would be taken in the near future.
