Insecurity: FRSC Seizes Vehicles with Foreign Number Plates

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has apprehended a vehicle owner who had both foreign and Nigerian number plates on their vehicle. The arrest was a result of the ongoing nationwide crackdown on unstable, unregistered, and improperly registered vehicles, according to ACM Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer.

Kazeem stated in a press release on Tuesday in Abuja that the operation was initiated in response to public concerns about the security risks posed by motorists who violate road traffic regulations, including the use of both foreign and Nigerian number plates on the same vehicle.

The FRSC patrol team caught one individual using two number plates, namely BBJ746AA and CV51UMC, on their Volkswagen Golf 3 car.

“The perpetrator was apprehended within the Idu operational area of the FRSC in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, based on credible intelligence gathered by the tactical team,” Kazeem explained.

He further added, “There is a viral video featuring another driver. The search for the vehicle in the video is still ongoing. However, the Volkswagen that was just seized, along with the driver, has been handed over to the Life Camp Divisional Police Command in the FCT for further questioning and potential prosecution after the preliminary investigation conducted by the Corps Intelligence Unit.”

Kazeem emphasized that the FRSC has deployed tactical teams strategically to seize unstable, unregistered, and improperly registered vehicles and to initiate legal proceedings against offenders.
