Speculation of bridge demolition in Kano baseless lies – Commissioner, Dantiye

Kano State Government, has described as baseless concocted lies, alleged plans to demolish a bridge said to be constructed by the Senate Deputy President, Barau Jibrin in his Gwarzo Hometown.

The Government through the Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, explained there was no bridge built by the Senate Deputy President, Barau Jibrin that could be demolished.

Reports had claimed that residents of Gwarzo town were protesting the alleged planned demolition of the bridge constructed by Barau Jibrin.

However, the Information Commissioner, speaking in Kano said what happened was that some people approached the government seeking for the construction of the bridge.

“And government had already mobilized it’s teams of Engineers who surveyed the place and as usual in a professional way of constructing bridges, all necessary engineering jobs are underway while we are awaiting the submission of reports”.

He said, however, some overzealous groups went to the site and commenced some minor handy works on the place, and used that as a propaganda machine to say that Barau Jibrin had constructed the bridge and government is planning to demolish it.

The original bridge located in the Gwarzo town bypass was washed away three weeks ago following a torrential rainfall that caused flooding.

Following the flooding, residents said the locals appealed to the government to work on it, “and plans are already underway to reconstruct the bridge only for overzealous groups to start protesting that there was a bridge and we are destroying”.

Baba Halilu Dantiye hinted that even Barau Jibrin when asked, said he was not aware of any bridge he built that is causing friction between him and government.
