Police Recommend CCTV and Strict Access Control Measures for Increased Safety in Abia Schools

As schools in Abia State resume, the state’s police command has issued crucial safety recommendations for school authorities, parents, and students.

In a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Abia State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, school management is advised to prioritize the safety of their premises. This includes conducting thorough security assessments, identifying vulnerable areas, and deploying security personnel at critical entry points.

The police command also urged schools to install and maintain Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in strategic locations for efficient monitoring of activities within the premises.

Furthermore, the statement recommended that schools implement strict access control measures such as access cards and visitor logs. All visitors should sign in and obtain visitor passes. School authorities should also ensure that their staff are trained in various security situations, such as fire emergencies, lockdown procedures, and evacuation protocols.

It is important for schools to establish clear lines of communication with local law enforcement agencies and the community. This will help provide information and updates on security matters. Additionally, any suspicious activities in school environments should be promptly reported to the relevant security agencies.

Parents are advised to maintain open lines of communication with their children while they are at school. Staying informed about security updates and changes in school policies is crucial. Parents should provide the school with updated emergency contact information, ensuring they can be reached in any emergency situation.

“If your child commutes to school, ensure they use safe and reliable transportation options. Familiarize yourself with the route and driver details,” the statement advised Abia parents.
