Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, has criticized Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last election, for implying that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had submitted a fake certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

While responding to the ongoing controversy surrounding Tinubu’s university certificates, Peter Obi argued that honesty regarding one’s qualifications is important, emphasizing that educational attainment is not the sole criterion for being a capable president. He cited several American leaders who achieved success despite lacking strong educational backgrounds.

In the fiercely contested legal battle to scrutinize Tinubu’s academic qualifications during the February 25 presidential poll, the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, emerged victorious.

Tinubu had submitted certificates from Chicago State University (CSU) to INEC as evidence of eligibility to participate in the election.

A United States court recently ruled that CSU must release Tinubu’s academic records to Atiku in support of his petition challenging the outcome of the 2023 presidential poll.

In her judgment, Justice Nancy Maldonado dismissed Tinubu’s objection and explicitly ordered that CSU must provide Atiku with the requested academic records for verification.

On Monday evening, the records were made available to the PDP leader, although some sections of social media users are questioning their authenticity.

Reno Omokri is now criticizing Peter Obi for even suggesting the existence of a fake certificate.

“Peter Obi, you have publicly shown support for Bola Tinubu’s academic credentials from the Chicago State University,” Omokri wrote on X.

“But just yesterday morning, while on AriseTV, you accused another leader of possessing a ‘fake certificate.’

“Now, I raise this question: Why did you not submit your own degree from the University of Nigeria Nsukka to INEC?”
