Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has characterized the All Progressive Congress (APC) as a party of deceit. He asserted that the APC misled Nigerians to secure re-election in 2019. Speaking at a PDP presidential campaign rally in Minna on Saturday, Atiku claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari deceived the people of Niger State to gain their votes for his second term. He pointed out that just weeks before the 2019 general elections, Buhari hurriedly commissioned the Baro Port, yet since that time, no activities have taken place there. “You voted under the impression that the port would operate and create jobs for the community, but now you know better,” Atiku remarked.

The former Vice President further criticized the APC government for its slogan of ‘Change,’ arguing that the change has manifested negatively for the citizens, bringing insecurity and hunger instead of progress. He promised that if elected president in the upcoming election, he would focus on reconstructing roads and restructuring the health systems.

In response, Festus Keyamo, the spokesperson for the APC Presidential Campaign Council, dismissed Atiku’s statements as an insult to Nigerians. He remarked, “This is coming from a man who has never been trusted by Nigerians with their votes. Such statements are an insult to the electorate.” Keyamo highlighted that in 2019, 15 million Nigerians voted against Atiku, emphasizing that the public is well aware of his untrustworthiness. He concluded by asserting that Atiku would be rejected once again at the polls, stating, “Atiku cannot lie his way to power, and with the recent revelations regarding the SPP saga, he has distanced himself even further from the trust of Nigerians.”
