Former Newcastle United icon, Alan Shearer, has attributed Manchester United’s on-pitch struggles this season to the actions of the Glazer family.
With a turbulent start to the 2023-24 campaign, the Red Devils find themselves in 10th place in the Premier League table, having lost half of their top-flight matches.
In addition to their domestic woes, Erik ten Hag’s side has suffered defeats in two of their UEFA Champions League encounters against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.
During an interview with The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer expressed his opinion on Manchester United, stating, “What is happening at the very top [the Glazer family] of the football club inevitably filters its way down onto the pitch. People may argue against this, believing that what goes on in the boardroom has no impact on the players. However, it’s undeniable that it does.”
He continued, “The discontent among the fans due to the actions of the owners has seeped onto the pitch. Until there is significant change in that aspect, I don’t foresee the situation improving.”
