In a historic ceremony held at the Emir’s palace, the Emir of Biu, His Royal Majesty, Dr Umar Mustapha II, bestowed traditional titles on eminent individuals for their exceptional dedication and service to the people of the state and the nation. Among those honored were the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Burutai, who was turbaned as the Betara of Biu.
Accompanying Lt.-Gen. Tukur Burutai in receiving traditional titles were retired Brig.-Gen. Dadan Garba, who was appointed as the ‘Zanna of Biu’, and Rear Admiral Abdul Adamu Biu, who became the ‘Shettima of Biu’.
The Emir of Biu, Mr Mustapha, explained that the selection of Lt.-Gen. Tukur Burutai for the prestigious title was in recognition of his outstanding contributions, not only to the Biu Emirate, but to the entire country as a whole.
Gracing the occasion were a multitude of dignitaries, including serving and retired military officers, top government officials, traditional rulers, politicians, and members of the academia. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya, Lt. Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, and former APC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu, were among the distinguished guests who attended the event.
The Borno Deputy Governor, Dr Usman Kadafur, expressed his appreciation to the Emir for deeming these individuals worthy of receiving these titles. He commended their unwavering commitment to the peace and unity of Nigeria.
With the conferment of these traditional titles, the Emir of Biu continues to uphold the rich cultural heritage of the Biu Emirate and recognizes the invaluable contributions of exceptional individuals who have dedicated their lives to the service of their people and nation.
