The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has urged officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to demonstrate empathy while carrying out their duties to the public.
Adeoye, speaking at a brief ceremony to commemorate the promotion of some officers and men of the Command, conveyed his congratulations to the beneficiaries, emphasizing the significance of promotion and the accompanying responsibilities and postings in a police career.
He noted, “I know you all feel joyful, fulfilled and invigorated to assume new responsibilities in safeguarding our homeland.
“As you take on these responsibilities, I implore you to cultivate empathy for the members of the public that you serve. It is essential to exhibit compassion and dedication in the execution of your duties. Recognize that we all share the same humanity and therefore, treat everyone with respect.
“Ensure the protection of their fundamental human rights. Even when individuals are involved in criminal activities, they are still entitled to certain rights. Regardless of the nature of their crimes, there are limitations to what can be done. Punishment is to be determined by the court.
“Do not engage in acts of torture, physical abuse, or other maltreatments to extract confessions. Adhere to the law and operate within its confines. As you ascend in rank, continue to represent the police force admirably.
“The country has invested resources in training you, and it is incumbent upon you to apply that training in your duties. To whom much is given, much is expected.
“In your new assignments, do not overlook the support of your spouses. They are the ones who manage the home front. Remember, as we always say, no matter the rank you hold, your wife holds one higher than yours.”
A total of 19 officers were promoted, with advancements from the ranks of Chief Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Superintendent of Police to Chief Superintendent of Police, and Assistant Superintendent of Police to Deputy Superintendent of Police.
ACP Chinenyenwa Emelike, representing the promoted officers, pledged their commitment to diligently fulfill their responsibilities.
