Indigenes of the Oke-Ogun zone in Oyo State, Nigeria, are urging the All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider zoning its governorship ticket for the 2027 election to their area. The call was made by Egbe Ajosepo Fun Itesiwaju Gbogbo Wa, a socio-cultural organisation representing Oke-Ogun interests. The group’s leaders, National Chairman Dauda Olaifa and Secretary Pastor Favour Adewoyin, jointly signed a statement explaining their involvement in the ongoing APC Renewed Hope Unity Rally in the state.
The organisation praised the APC’s renewed energy and strategic direction, noting that the party has begun early efforts to strengthen its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, the group clarified that its presence at the APC rally was not partisan mobilisation, stressing that it remained a non-political body. The group’s participation in the rally was a deliberate move to draw attention to the longstanding demand for Oke-Ogun to produce a governor in the next election cycle.
As a non-partisan advocacy platform, the group has engaged with various political parties, including the APC, PDP, ADC, Accord, and Labour Party, to push for the equitable rotation of the governorship to Oke-Ogun in 2027. The group reaffirmed its support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition and appealed to the APC leadership to act in line with justice, equity, and inclusiveness by zoning the governorship ticket to Oke-Ogun.
The group noted that Oke-Ogun has several capable and credible aspirants, including former deputy governors, a former minister, and other notable personalities with the experience and capacity to lead Oyo State effectively. The demand for the governorship is anchored on fairness and constitutional balance, referencing Sections 14(3) and 14(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which emphasise inclusivity, diversity, and equitable representation at all levels of government.
The organisation argued that Oke-Ogun’s push for the governorship does not undermine its senatorial aspirations, citing precedents where other zones have held both positions. With the 2027 election approaching, the group’s appeal to the APC leadership may influence the party’s decision on zoning its governorship ticket. The outcome of this development will be closely watched, as it may have significant implications for the political landscape of Oyo State.
