The Lagos State House of Assembly has approved a budget of ₦4,444,509,776,438 for 2026, marking a significant step toward sustainable development in the state. The approval took place during a plenary session chaired by Speaker Hon. Mudashiru Obasa on Thursday, following a comprehensive report presented by Hon. Sa’ad Olumoh, Chairman of the House Committee on Economic Planning and Budget. Lawmakers adopted the report by voice vote, unanimously supporting the budget.
Speaker Obasa said the budget’s passage is intended to drive development and growth across Lagos. The approved amount exceeds the initial proposal of ₦4.23 trillion submitted by Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu to the House on 25 November 2025. The Governor is expected to assent to the budget bill shortly, enabling its implementation.
Obasa directed the Clerk of the House, Barrister Olalekan Onafeko, to send a clean copy of the approved bill to Governor Sanwo‑Olu for his signature. This step is crucial for putting the state’s development plans into action. The budget outlines spending priorities for the coming year, covering sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social services. With its approval, the state government can now move forward with initiatives that are expected to positively affect the lives of Lagos residents. The Governor’s forthcoming assent is eagerly awaited, as it will herald a new phase of development for the state.
