The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward David Onoja, has suffered a defeat in his own local government, Olamaboro, as the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) secured a significant victory.
In a surprising turn of events, the All Progressive Congress (APC), to which Onoja is affiliated, garnered 5,572 votes in Olamaboro, while the SDP achieved an impressive 22,173 votes, indicating a noteworthy shift in the political landscape of the region.
Confirming the outcome, the collation officer of the Local Government, Ogbufa Chukwudi, officially declared the results, signifying a pivotal moment in the gubernatorial election.
Notably, this defeat follows the previous revelation that Onoja also lost his own polling unit to the SDP, underscoring the extent of the political upheaval in the state.
Senator Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party notably garnered 1376 votes, further contributing to the dynamic electoral contest.
Further analysis revealed that the total votes cast in Olamaboro Local Government amounted to 30,226, with 29,731 votes being rejected and 495 deemed invalid, illustrating the magnitude of participation and the inherent challenges encountered during the electoral process.
