Court of Appeal Affirms Nasiru Gawuna as Winner of Kano Gubernatorial Election

The Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja, has upheld the judgment of the Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, affirming Nasiru Gawuna, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the gubernatorial election in the state. This decision comes after the tribunal declared Gawuna as the rightful winner, dismissing the appeal filed by Abba Yusuf, the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and governor of Kano State.

The Kano State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal had on September 20, nullified the election of the governor and pronounced Nasiru Gawuna as the winner of the March 18 governorship poll.

Unsatisfied with the tribunal’s ruling, the governor, represented by his counsel Wole Olanipekun, sought the intervention of the appellate court to overturn the tribunal’s judgment.

This recent development has significant implications for the political landscape in Kano State and is poised to shape the future governance of the state.
