INEC Presents Certificates of Return to Kogi Governor-Elect and Deputy, Usman Ododo and Joel Salifu

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has officially presented certificates of return to the Governor-elect of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, and his Deputy, Joel Salifu on Friday.

Usman Ododo and Joel Salifu, who contested under the All Progressive Congress (APC), emerged victorious in the November 11 Off-Cycle Governorship Election in Kogi. They secured 446,237 votes, defeating their closest rivals, Murtala Ajaka and Sam Ranti-Abenemi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who garnered 259,052 votes.

The presentation of the certificates of return took place at the INEC headquarters in Lokoja, the state capital, amid jubilation by party members and supporters.

The National Electoral Commissioner for Kwara, Niger and Kogi, Sani Adam (SAN), commended Ododo and Salifu for their success in the governorship election as he presented them with the certificates. The Kogi State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Gabriel Longpet, emphasized that the presentation was part of the Commission’s constitutional mandate.

Speaking after receiving his certificate, Governor-elect Usman Ododo assured the people of Kogi that he is committed to fulfilling his campaign promises and building on the achievements of the outgoing Governor, Yahaya Bello.

Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support during the election, Ododo described his victory as a testament to the strength and unity of Kogi State. He pledged to run an all-inclusive administration that embraces individuals from all tribes, religions, and political affiliations.

“My administration will prioritize sustaining the youth and women empowerment programs initiated by the current administration. I remain resolute in providing employment opportunities for our youths and placing a strong emphasis on education,” he affirmed.

Furthermore, Governor Yahaya Bello, who witnessed the presentation of the certificates, urged the people of the state to rally behind Usman Ododo in the collective task of building a greater Kogi State. He emphasized the need for unity and solidarity, emphasizing the importance of consolidating the achievements of the previous administration.

As the dust settles on the election, all eyes are now on the incoming administration, as the people of Kogi eagerly anticipate the fulfillment of the promises made during the campaign.
