President Weah Concedes Defeat with Eyes on the Future

President George Weah, in a poignant address to the nation, gracefully acknowledged the outcome of the recent Presidential runoff election. In his address, President Weah called on his supporters to accept the results and prepare for the future, with a hopeful eye on reclaiming power in 2029.

“I urge you to follow my example and accept the results of the election. Go home tonight with the knowledge that our ideas and vision for Liberia remain strong. We are a young movement and our time will come again,” Weah said, displaying resilience and determination in the face of defeat.

Despite the disappointment of the election outcome, President Weah emphasized the importance of respecting the democratic will of the people of Liberia. He expressed gratitude to his supporters, including Weahcians, CDCians, and all those who championed his campaign, as well as the first-time voters who placed their trust in him.

Acknowledging the deep divisions revealed by the election results, President Weah underscored the need for a nationalistic approach that transcends party politics. He reached out to President-elect Joseph Nyumah Boakai, conceding defeat and congratulating him on his victory. President Weah noted that even if the remaining polling places were tallied, the results would not change in his favor.

As he prepares for the handover of power, President Weah affirmed his commitment to continuing to work for the good of Liberia. While the CDC may have lost the election, President Weah emphasized that Liberia, as a nation, has emerged victorious. He called for a unifying effort to heal the divisions caused by the campaign, urging all Liberians to come together and strive towards a brighter future for the country.

President Weah expressed satisfaction that the elections were held under his leadership, ensuring that his promise for a free, fair, and transparent electoral process was upheld without interference in the outcome of the results.

The graceful concession by President Weah marks a pivotal moment in Liberian politics, setting the stage for a peaceful transition of power and laying the groundwork for a future that transcends individual interests in favour of national unity and progress.
