The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Victor Olaiya, has advised motorists in the state to enrol their vehicles in the newly digitized Central Motor Registry (CMR) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Olaiya emphasized that the revitalized central motor registry office aims to address vehicle-related offences and bolster security measures. These offences, as noted by the CP, encompass car theft, snatching, kidnapping, carjacking, hit-and-run incidents, and are largely associated with unregistered vehicles and tinted glasses.
Speaking in Ilorin, he outlined the categories of vehicles to be covered under the new policy, which include Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), Saloon Cars, Trucks, Buses, Tricycles, and Motorcycles, among others.
Notable services offered at the digitized office include requesting motor vehicle information, changing vehicle ownership details, updating vehicle licenses and number plates, as well as amending vehicle chassis or body information, among others.
The CP highlighted the benefits of digitizing vehicle information through the central motor registry, such as improved security, enhanced law enforcement, crime deterrence, expedited investigations, and bolstering national security.
He asserted that the digitized CMR will instil greater confidence in citizens regarding the security of their vehicles, stressing that accurate and real-time vehicle information will aid in the prevention and swift resolution of vehicular crimes, ultimately safeguarding citizens’ assets.
Olaiya encouraged vehicle owners in the state to take advantage of enrolling their vehicles, including motorcycles and tricycles, in the digitized CMR. He urged them to contribute to the collective effort in fortifying the security and safety of the society.
