NUC Applauds Advances in ICT-Driven Education in Nigeria

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has lauded the remarkable progress made in the incorporation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into the Nigerian educational system.

During the opening of the 1st NTI Annual National Conference 2023 in Kaduna on Tuesday, the acting Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof. Chris Maiyaki, highlighted the significant strides in this regard.

Under the theme, “Re-directing the Focus of Education Stakeholders Towards Modern Process of Producing Competent, Dedicated and Professional Teachers in Nigeria,” the conference aimed to address critical issues in the education sector.

Represented by Prof. Mohammed Yahaya of the University of Ibadan, the executive director emphasised that since 2009, NUC has been at the forefront of implementing various programmes designed to integrate Open and Distance Learning (ODL) approaches in line with global best practices.

He noted that these initiatives had empowered university faculty to leverage technology for enhancing student engagement.

Prof. Maiyaki further stated, “Moreover, the establishment of ODL Centers by universities has significantly expanded access to education, fostering a more inclusive learning environment.”

“The NUC’s initiatives have not only centred on ICT but have also facilitated the establishment of private open universities, thereby promoting digital learning and ICT-infused educational delivery,” he added.
