Trucks with Fuel and Aid En Route to Gaza Strip as Israel-Hamas Truce Takes Effect

More trucks filled with essential humanitarian supplies are making their way through Egypt’s Rafah border crossing to the Gaza Strip, marking the second day of a temporary truce agreed upon by Israel and the Islamist Hamas movement.

On Saturday, an Egyptian official confirmed the passage of seven fuel trucks, with four of them carrying crucial cooking gas. Moreover, 100 trucks loaded with food and medical aid destined for Gaza also successfully crossed through Rafah, as announced by Dr. Raed Abdel-Nasser, the head of the Red Crescent in Egypt’s northern Sinai.

The Palestinian Red Crescent reported that their teams received 196 trucks of relief supplies via Rafah on Friday, courtesy of their Egyptian counterparts.

The truce, brokered and announced by Qatar on Wednesday, entails a four-day cessation of hostilities between the two warring factions. This period of respite will facilitate the much-needed influx of aid into the densely populated Gaza Strip, in return for the release of hostages Hamas had taken during the violent October 7 attacks on Israel.

As part of the agreement, Israel has also consented to the release of a number of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.

The agreement breathes a sense of hope into the ongoing conflict, offering a brief moment of relief and respite for the people caught in the crossfire. This temporary ceasefire carries the promise of healing and rebuilding lives shattered by the relentless cycle of violence.
