The Imo State Police Command recently disclosed the arrest of 18 individuals believed to be affiliated with the banned IPOB/ESN, in connection to the tragic killing of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahiazu Mbaise and an Inspector of Police at BOEK Petroleum Filling Station, Ahiara Junction, in Ahaizu, Mbaise LGA of Imo State.

In a statement released by police spokesman Henry Okoye, it was revealed that the officers were refueling their operational vehicle at the aforementioned filling station when a group of individuals, suspected to be members of the Proscribed IPOB/ESN and clad in military camouflage, as well as black and red regalia, launched a sudden and fierce attack. The assailants arrived with three vehicles and motorcycles, unleashing a hail of bullets in a brazen manner.

The statement elucidated, “The police operatives displayed immense bravery in the face of danger. Regrettably, the DPO and an Inspector of Police paid the ultimate sacrifice in the ensuing gun battle, while two police officers managed to survive the assault.”

It was further stated, “Every effort will be exerted to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to justice. Led by CP Aboki Danjuma, police officers swiftly initiated a confidence-building patrol in Ahaizu Mbaise. Subsequently, they engaged in a high-speed pursuit of the assailants who were compelled to retreat with varying degrees of gunshot wounds, abandoning some of their operational motorcycles.”

“The military, under the command of the Brigade Commander, 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze, promptly reinforced the police operatives. An extensive search of the area is currently underway.”

“Furthermore, a total of 18 suspects have been apprehended and are currently undergoing thorough investigation.”

The statement underscored the unwavering commitment of the Imo State Police Command to collaborate with other security agencies, emphasizing its resolve to ensure the safety of the populace.
