The Minister of State for Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, made an unannounced visit to the NYSC Orientation Camp, Yikpata, in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, North Central Nigeria, on Tuesday. He used the opportunity to instill a renewed sense of optimism in the Nigerian youth.
Addressing the young corps members, he urged them to hold on to hope and remain steadfast in the pursuit of their aspirations. Mr. Olawande emphatically stated, “If I can be appointed as an Honourable Minister, any one of you can equally be the President of the Federal Republic. See yourselves beyond your present condition and levels.” His empowering words resonated with the audience, inspiring them to dream beyond their current circumstances and actively contribute to national development.
In a gesture of commitment to the welfare of the corps members, the Minister pledged to enhance the camp’s facilities, particularly the multipurpose Hall, which he acknowledged as no longer conducive for the youth undergoing the mandatory national service.
Reflecting on his own time as a corps member in Gombe State, Mr. Olawande wistfully recalled the experiences that shaped his formative years and encouraged the young adults to embrace patriotism throughout their service year.
The Minister led an inspection of various camp facilities, including the kitchen, corps members’ hostels, and the clinic before concluding his visit.
Showing appreciation for the Minister’s gesture, the State Coordinator of NYSC Kwara, Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa, noted that the visit underscored the Minister’s deep concern and support for the youth. He revealed that this visit marked the first time the Minister had personally engaged with a camp since assuming office.
Mr. Olaoluwa commended the Minister, hailing him as an invigorated leader with the vigor to effect the much-needed change in the lives of Nigerian youths.
