The interim head coach of the Super Falcons, Justin Madugu, is filled with optimism that the team will secure a spot at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, ahead of their clash with Cape Verde.
The Nigerian Ladies are set to host the Cape Verdean team in the first leg of their final round qualifying match at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Thursday.
Preparations for the game commenced on Monday with a light training session for the Falcons.
Out of the 21 invited players, 20 are currently in the team’s camp, with the awaited arrival of Deborah Abiodun.
Despite the absence of some key players such as Asisat Oshoala, Christy Ucheibe, Ifeoma Onumonu, and Jennifer Echegini, Madugu exudes confidence in the team’s ability to overcome their opponents.
“We are without a few regular players for various reasons but we are not here to dwell on that. The Super Falcons’ team remains the Super Falcons anytime, anyday and anywhere. We have players in camp who will do justice to the badge and get us the qualification ticket to the AFCON,” he stated on thenff.com.
Madugu also added, “Surely, we would have wanted a couple more days for the team to train together, but the fixture is the fixture and the window is the window, and we just have to make do with what we have and get the best out of the arrangement. Everyone in camp will play their part for the Super Falcons to qualify for Morocco 2024.”
