The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) made a groundbreaking discovery at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, when its operatives intercepted a staggering 1.5 million tablets of tramadol and Rohypnol en route to South Africa. The gripping operation led to the apprehension of two key suspects, Bada Akorede and Amusan Sharafadeen, in connection with the illicit consignment.
In another remarkable feat, the agency seized a separate consignment of 2.2kg of cocaine on the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway, sending shockwaves through the clandestine drug trafficking underworld.
Femi Babafemi, the articulate spokesperson for NDLEA, unveiled these astounding revelations in Abuja, underscoring the intricate web of drug trafficking networks that persist both domestically and internationally.
Notably, the agency’s relentless pursuit of justice led to the arrest of Isaac Okoh (45) in connection with a disturbing drug shipment concealed in condoms, bound for Port Harcourt from Lagos. Furthermore, the NDLEA’s unwavering commitment to uprooting drug-related malfeasance was echoed in the apprehension of a dealer, Ibrahim Yahaya (35), in Lafia, where a clandestine stash of 100kg of Indian hemp was cleverly hidden in the ceiling of his residence.
The agency’s vigilance extended to a resolute crackdown on the distribution of codeine, with the interception of 1,496 bottles in Abuja and an additional 400 bottles on the Abaji-Abuja Highway. These interdictions led to the apprehension of suspects Ozioma Enoja (31) and Bala Ishaq, respectively, shedding light on the pervasive scourge of codeine distribution that plagues the country.
As the NDLEA continues to navigate the treacherous terrain of combating drug trafficking, the discovery of 17 bags of Indian hemp weighing a staggering 195.8kg in Edo, and the arrest of individuals in Ogun, Borno, Zamfara, and Cross River further underscores the pervasive nature of this global epidemic.
The arrest of individuals such as Ezekiel Thompson, Hezekiah Ime, Nsikak Okon, Chidi Kalu, Jamilu Haruna, Mohammed Hassan, Aminu Umar, Bukar Ali, Abacha Fantami, and others in connection with the possession and distribution of narcotics serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking.
In an unyielding pursuit of justice, the NDLEA remains at the forefront of combating drug-related crimes, unravelling intricate drug trafficking operations, and preserving the sanctity of Nigeria’s social fabric. These relentless efforts serve as a beacon of hope in the global fight against drug trafficking, resonating far beyond the borders of Nigeria.
