Nigerian artist Spyro, also known as Oludipe David, has stepped up to address the uproar surrounding his performance at the Harvesters International Gospel Centre’s Christmas carol service in Lagos. Amidst the fervor sparked by his rendition of the hit song “Only Fine Girl” during a dramatic presentation, Spyro has fervently defended his actions and his place in the church.

In a poignant response posted on his official platform, Spyro made it unequivocally clear that his status as a celebrity does not preclude him from devoutly serving and worshipping God alongside other congregants. “Just saw myself and Pastor Bolaji has been getting dragged because I did a drama ministration in church. Let me make something very clear,” he wrote.

He further clarified, “I have been a member of Harvesters for over 7 years, and I serve in two departments. The video making rounds on the internet is off a drama I took part in at our annual carol service called Fantasia.”

Spyro pointed out the inclusive nature of the carol service, emphasizing that it was open and accessible to all, with no admission fees. In response to the criticism, Spyro emphasized, “Because I’m a celebrity doesn’t make me human? I can serve God like the rest of you. So please understand that I’m human, a Christian, and I serve in a real church. Thanks.”

In his passionate defense, Spyro effectively conveyed his unwavering commitment to his faith and his right as a member of the church to actively participate in its activities, emphasizing that his celebrity status does not diminish his humanity or his dedication to serving God.

This bold response from Spyro serves as a reminder that regardless of status, profession, or public perception, individuals retain the right to express their faith and actively engage in religious practices. Spyro’s unwavering affirmation of his place in the church stands as a testament to the diversity and inclusivity of religious communities, transcending societal labels and expectations.
