The late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, former governor of Ondo State, has been hailed as one of the most influential and brave presidents of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) by the current NBA president, Yakubu Maikyau, SAN. Akeredolu, who was admitted to the Bar in 1978, served as the NBA president from 2008 to 2010.

Akeredolu, aged 67, passed away in Germany after battling a prolonged illness.

In a statement, Maikyau reflected on Akeredolu’s legacy, stating, “He will be positively remembered for his several contributions to the growth and development of Ondo State and the entire region.”

The late learned Senior Advocate also held significant government positions, including serving as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice from 1997 to 1999, and later as a two-term Governor from 2017 until his demise.

Notably, Akeredolu was instrumental in the establishment of Amotekun, a regional security network aimed at addressing security challenges in the western region. The network has effectively combatted terrorism, armed robbery, kidnapping, and banditry within the region, serving as a model for others to emulate.

The passing of Oluwarotimi Akeredolu leaves a significant void in Nigerian legal and political spheres. His indelible mark as a courageous leader and his dedication to the progress of Ondo State and the South West region will be enduringly remembered.
