Nigeria Customs Service Reports Record Revenue Generation in Kano and Jigawa

The Nigeria Customs Service, Kano/Jigawa Command, has achieved a significant milestone by generating an impressive N52.7 billion in revenue for the year 2023. This represents a remarkable 26.4% increase compared to the N41.7 billion collected in the previous year, as revealed by Comptroller Ibrahim Chana, the Area Controller of the command.

Chana emphasized that the command excelled in revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling operations in 2023 when compared to 2022. He attributed this success to the collaborative efforts with stakeholders, regular sensitization programs, and proactive engagement with businesses in Kano and Jigawa states, resulting in voluntary compliance.

The commendable enforcement actions by the command led to numerous seizures, effectively curbing smuggling activities in the two states. Additionally, Chana highlighted the cooperation between the command and sister government agencies in handling the seized items, demonstrating a spirit of inter-agency collaboration.

Acknowledging the crucial support received, Chana extended his appreciation to various organizations for their contributions to the service. This achievement stands as a testament to the dedication and effectiveness of the Nigeria Customs Service in boosting revenue generation and tackling illicit trade activities in the region.
