BREAKING Peter Obis campaign director Doyin Okupe resigns from LP

Doyin Okupe, former Director General of the Peter Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization, has sent shockwaves through Nigerian politics with his resignation from the Labour Party (LP). Okupe cited ideological disparities stemming from the 2023 elections as the impetus behind his decision.

In a letter disclosed to the media on Monday, Okupe articulated his reasons, stating that his alignment with right-wing and liberal democratic principles clashed with the left-of-center ideology of the LP, rendering continued membership unsustainable.

“We did contest the election on the platform of the Labour Party and lost. This makes it exceedingly difficult for me to continue to stay in the Labour Party, which is ideologically rooted in the left of the center,” Okupe expressed in his resignation letter.

As a staunch rightist and lifelong advocate of Liberal Democracy, the ideological conflict spurred his departure, as he seeks to pursue his political activities aligned with his personal convictions of liberalism, sincerity, and freedom.

Okupe expressed gratitude towards the LP leadership for the platform provided during the 2023 Presidential Elections and extended well wishes for the party’s future endeavors, concluding with, “Long live the Labour Party. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The resonance of Okupe’s resignation reaches far beyond the borders of Nigeria, igniting debates on ideological diversity and political alignment in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
