The Western Nigeria Security Network, known as the Amotekun corps, has demonstrated its commitment to combating crime by apprehending 29 suspected criminals within a week in Ondo State.
Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, the state Commander of the corps, proudly presented the suspects to the press on Monday in Akure, unveiling their alleged involvement in a spectrum of offenses including kidnapping, armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, theft, and more.
Among the apprehended individuals was an ex-convict who had been released from the correctional center on January 1, only to be rearrested on January 4 for the same burglary offense that had led to his initial imprisonment.
Adeleye emphasized the disconcerting pattern of recidivism, stating, “In the last one week, we were able to arrest 29 suspects involved in different forms of security breaches. One issue of note is that on all of such instances, we always have a recycled criminal.”
The commander praised the diligence of the corps’ personnel and other security agencies for their efforts in upholding safety and security throughout the end-of-year festivities, during which no bank robberies or major incidents were reported in the state.
Furthermore, he stressed that the arrested suspects would face prosecution upon the completion of thorough investigations by the corps, firmly cautioning criminal elements in the state to reconsider their ways or confront the full force of the law when apprehended.
Amidst the enthralling apprehensions by the Amotekun corps, Adeleye’s unwavering call for criminal elements to steer away from illegal activities in the new year echoes louder, leaving a stern warning in the air – adhere to the law or brace for the consequences.
