The Pentagon unleashed a fresh wave of strikes against Iranian targets on July 7, retaliating for what American officials called a brazen assault on three civilian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. military described the attacks as a direct breach of the existing ceasefire agreement.

U.S. Central Command stated the operation was designed to “inflict significant consequences for targeting and endangering commercial shipping carrying innocent civilians in a vital international waterway.” The agency condemned Iran’s actions as “unprovoked, reckless, and a flagrant violation of the ceasefire.”

In a parallel move, Washington revoked Iran’s license to sell oil abroad, escalating economic pressure in response to the maritime attacks. The decision effectively tightens the noose on Tehran’s energy revenue.

The latest confrontation underscores the fragile state of peace negotiations, as Iran’s continued aggression in the strategic strait draws both military and economic reprisals from the United States.
