The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced a new requirement for prospective corps members: they must register for mobilization with their National Identification Numbers (NIN) starting from the 2024 exercise. This decision emerged from a meeting between NYSC Management, led by Director General Brigadier General Y.D. Ahmed, and the National Identification Management Commission (NIMC) management, led by Director General Abisoye Coker-Odusote, held in Abuja.

According to Brig Gen Ahmed, the collaboration with NIMC will enhance the online registration process for NYSC. He noted that the NYSC Integrated System, implemented in 2014, has significantly streamlined the mobilization process.

NIMC Director General Coker-Odusote expressed the commission’s readiness for collaboration, commending NYSC’s mobilization protocols and its efforts in shaping corps members for leadership responsibilities over its 50-year history. She also emphasized that the synergy will simplify the mobilization process and address multiple issues, highlighting NIMC’s partnerships with various government agencies.

The move to incorporate NIN into NYSC mobilization procedures underscores a significant shift towards digital identification and streamlining bureaucratic processes. As NYSC continues to adapt to modernization, this development marks a pivotal moment in the organization’s history.
