Barcelona make late move for Morocco’s Sofyan Amrabat

Barcelona are reportedly attempting to sign Morocco player and  Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on a loan deal for the rest of the season.

The La Liga leaders are also said to be considering Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga on loan.

According to ESPN, La Liga have confirmed to Barca that they have a small amount of salary space to be able to register players this season, which has led the club to look for loan moves to bolster their squad for the remainder of the season with the January transfer deadline only hours away.

Barca are considering various options and at the same time, are being offered players from across Europe.

Amrabat could provide depth in midfield to Barca, although Fiorentina have said he is not for sale, with his contract due to expire in 2024.

During the 2022 World Cup  Amrabat emerged as one of the players of the tournament, starring in midfield as Morocco reached the semi-finals.

Although Fiorentina find themselves down in 12th position in the Serie A standings, the 26-year-old has managed to drag attention from the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur heavily linked at one stage, with Fiorentina saying the player was not for sale.

However the Daily Mail UK also reports that Barcelona have made contact with Fiorentina with regards to a straight loan deal, although Fiorentina are yet to give the green light to a switch.

The Catalan giants are currently sitting five points clear at the top of the La Liga table and a green light from Fiorentina could mean the African joining the La Liga side.
