PDP Conducts Delegates Congress Across 17 Local Government Areas

Ondo PDP Suspends Chairman Over Anti Party Activities

A delegates congress for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was held in 17 local government areas in Nigeria. In Oredo Local Government Area, a Benin palace chief, the State chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, and two former senators were elected as delegates for the party’s upcoming primary election.

The congress, which used the option A4 voting system, was supervised by PDP officials from the national headquarters and monitored by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission alongside security agencies.

In Egor Local Government, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress was elected as a delegate, and in Etsako East, a former senator was also elected as a delegate. Additionally, another former senator was elected from Edo North district, and a new delegate was chosen from Owan West Local Government Area.

One of the PDP electoral officers commended the peaceful conduct of the delegates during the congress, while a party member described the election as the best conducted by the party since 1999.

Meanwhile, the ward congress election for Etsako Central local government was cancelled due to the alleged abduction of nine electoral officers who were on their way to the local government for the conduct of the ward congress.

As a result, 18 delegates are to be elected across the 18 local governments, with one delegate each, except for the Etsako Central Local Government Congress, which was affected by the alleged abduction of the electoral officers.
