Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the Governor of Lagos State, has emphasized the importance of increasing women’s participation in the electoral and political processes within the state. During a meeting with female candidates from the All Progressives Congress and female professionals at the Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja, she made this call, as noted in a statement released on Wednesday.

Sanwo-Olu remarked that Lagos has historically set a positive example for equitable participation of women in politics and governance. She highlighted that women currently hold strategic positions within the state executive council, ministries, commissions, departments, and agencies of government. Furthermore, she encouraged more female professionals from various fields to engage in the electoral process, stressing that it is in the collective interest of all stakeholders to participate.

Additionally, she underscored the importance of women supporting one another, particularly those who aspire to run for elective offices. Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed their commitment to their candidates, stating that they support Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for the presidential election, which aims to inspire renewed hope for Nigeria, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to promote a greater Lagos. She also called for support for all APC candidates to accelerate development in both the state and the country.
