Former Akwa United coach Kennedy Boboye has distanced himself from rumors linking him to the vacant coaching position at Nigeria Professional Football League side Wikki Tourists, Sports Extra reports. The job opened after former manager Kabiru Dogo resigned on Tuesday, having secured only one point in four games.

Following Dogo’s departure, league journalist Taye Hassan tweeted on Wednesday that Boboye, who previously coached Plateau United and Sunshine Stars, was being mentioned as a possible replacement for the Giant Elephants. “Kennedy Boboye could be the next tactician in the Wikki Tourists dugout, as information is coming in from a close source in Bauchi,” Hassan wrote.

Boboye dismissed the speculation during a telephone interview with our correspondent. “Anything you guys see, just conclude with it. I have been hearing this thing since yesterday (Tuesday),” he said.

Wikki Tourists have confirmed Dogo’s exit and appointed head coach Abdullah Adamu as caretaker for the squad. Boboye’s résumé includes a stint with Sunshine Stars in 2015 and league titles with Plateau United in 2017 and Akwa United in 2022, after which he left both positions the following season.
