The Nigerian Army has opened applications for eligible citizens who wish to join as Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) officers. The announcement on the Army’s website states that the commission is open to both civilians and serving military personnel; however, only serving personnel who have been sponsored to civil institutions by any branch of the Nigerian Armed Forces will be considered.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Be a Nigerian citizen as defined by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
2. Be male or female, aged 20‑30 years (medical consultants may be 25‑40 years).
3. Register for free on the Army portal and select the DSSC option before 14 March 2023.
4. Submit a passport‑size photograph, educational certificates, proof of membership in professional bodies, a certificate of state of origin, a birth certificate or age declaration, NIN, and BVN.
5. Provide recommendations from at least two referees, who must be a local government chairman/secretary, a senior military officer, or a police officer.
6. Have no criminal convictions and possess at least a first degree (Second Class Lower Division or higher) or an HND.
7. Provide a birth certificate endorsed by the National Population Commission, a hospital, or a local government council, or an age declaration, together with a certificate of state of origin.
8. Hold an NYSC discharge certificate or a valid exemption certificate; only post‑secondary qualifications obtained from 2013 onward will be accepted.
9. Have no bodily inscriptions or tattoos.
10. Meet the height requirement of at least 1.68 m for males and 1.65 m for females, and submit a letter of attestation from their former institution.
