Ex‑Aviation Minister Mbazulike Amechi, a First Republic politician and former lawmaker, died on 1 November 2022. His burial is scheduled for 16 February 2023 in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
A “Day of Tribute” will be held on 14 February 2023 at the International Convention Centre in Awka, Anambra State, as part of the funeral activities. President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) is expected to attend, along with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former President Goodluck Jonathan, who will chair the occasion. The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, have been listed as special guests of honour. Presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar (People’s Democratic Party), Bola Tinubu (All Progressives Congress) and Peter Obi (Labour Party) will also be present.
The National Planning Committee for Amechi’s funeral is chaired by Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, with CID Maduabum serving as secretary. A 39‑member state organising committee of eminent personalities has been constituted in Anambra State to assist the national committee; Innocent Chukwuma is the chairman and Maja Umeh the co‑chairman.
