Minister of State for Power, Goddy Jeddy‑Agba, announced that the Federal Government is implementing measures to generate 9,000 megawatts of electricity from renewable sources. The disclosure was made at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) management and board retreat in Abuja, where the minister emphasized that solar, wind, hydro and other renewables are the quickest solution to bridge the country’s electricity gap.
“This is why we plan to continue optimizing renewable energy while attracting quality investments and private‑sector participation,” Jeddy‑Agba said in his remarks. He praised the administration’s efforts to improve energy access through both on‑grid and off‑grid electrification solutions and reminded participants of Vision 30:30:30, which aims to raise generation capacity to 30,000 MW by 2030, with 30 percent (9,000 MW) coming from renewables.
Jeddy‑Agba highlighted the pivotal role of the REA in achieving this vision, noting its critical contribution to the global energy transition and off‑grid electrification dialogue. While expressing confidence in the agency’s management and board, he called for a healthy, productive collaboration that goes beyond knowledge exchange and expertise optimization. “I commend you for organizing this retreat to strengthen the agency, and I am confident that by the end of this exercise the REA will be reinvigorated and repositioned for a more significant impact beyond its current scorecard,” he added.
Speaking on behalf of the REA, Managing Director Ahmad Salihijo explained that the retreat’s aim was institutional strengthening and sustainable development. He outlined the agency’s plans, discussed implementation challenges with staff, and urged employees to build on the agency’s successes while being innovative in delivering their functions.
