The government of Benue State has provided clarification regarding the recent incident where a house was set on fire by hoodlums in the Gboko area. Contrary to initial reports, the house in question actually belongs to a relative of the late former governor of the state, Aper Aku, and not the governor himself.
Reports emerged that unidentified arsonists attacked the residence on Monday, leading to a devastating fire. Thankfully, the police were able to intervene and rescue the six occupants of the house before the flames could engulf the entire property. Deborah Aku, the daughter of the late governor, confirmed this information to journalists in Makurdi, the state capital.
In a statement, Olomon Lorpev, the Technical Advisor to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, clarified the ownership of the house. He emphasized that the property belonged to Ityungu Aku, a relative of the former governor, and not the governor himself.
Governor Hyacinth Alia condemned the attack as “barbaric” and expressed his disapproval of any form of property destruction within the state. Lorpev reiterated that the targeted residence was located in Mbayion near the former Ter Gboko Akaahan Adi’s house.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding property and upholding peace within communities. The government of Benue State remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, regardless of their background or affiliations.
