The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo State, Dr. Michael Arimanwa, has assured that the institution will not victimise the student who claimed she graduated with the help of God and her private parts. The student, Ogechi Okoroafor, made the statement in a viral video that quickly spread worldwide. While reviewing his four‑year achievements in his office on Tuesday, Arimanwa said the video had reached audiences “nearly everywhere,” and he had received calls and comments from people across the globe. He described the incident as “unfortunate” and emphasized that the school would handle it fairly.

Arimanwa confirmed that a committee has been established to investigate the matter. “We don’t want to pre‑empt the outcome of the committee because we will interact with her tomorrow from the notice I have seen,” he said, adding that under his watch no one would be victimised. He stressed that the institution will adhere to its rules and due process.

The rector also noted that the polytechnic has mechanisms to punish both staff and students who breach its policies. “Some people have been punished, some removed as Heads of Departments, some suspended, some demoted, and some barred from promotion for various reasons,” he explained. He reiterated that the school’s laws and policies cover offenses such as exam malpractice, sexual harassment, and other infractions. Consequently, individuals have faced consequences ranging from loss of promotion and dismissal to demotion and expulsion, all carried out dispassionately and in accordance with established procedures.
