Supreme Court of Ghana Indefinitely Adjourns Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill Case

The Supreme Court of Ghana has indefinitely adjourned the case against the contentious anti-LGBTQ+ bill, which has sparked widespread debate and concern both domestically and internationally. The adjournment came after the court directed the lawyers of the Speaker to file new documents, citing the use of intemperate language in the original submissions.

Legal practitioner Martin Kpebu highlighted the potential repercussions of the Supreme Court ruling in favor of the bill, suggesting it could lead to significant backlash from the international community. He urged patience from the public, allowing the Supreme Court ample time to deliberate and reach a decision that aligns with the country’s best interests.

The bill, if passed, would impose severe penalties on individuals identifying as LGBTQ+ or advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, further criminalizing same-sex relations in Ghana. The Supreme Court’s handling of this case is pivotal, as it will set a precedent for human rights and legislative processes in the country
