Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq reaffirmed his commitment to advancing Nigeria’s aviation sector through investment in the International Aviation College in Ilorin, the state capital. Speaking at the flag‑off of a week‑long training course for airport and aviation correspondents on Monday, the governor—represented by Commissioner for Tertiary Institutions Dr. Abolore Alabi—emphasized that aviation is pivotal to the state’s development. He announced that the government has ordered additional equipment to upgrade the college, noting that 50 % of the items have already arrived and that further positive news is expected before year‑end.
Acting Rector of the International Aviation College, Capt. Okatayi Yakubu, praised the timing of the journalists’ training, saying it will enhance their capacity and familiarize them with industry terminology. He urged reporters to avoid sensationalism, warning that such coverage could deter potential air travelers, and affirmed that the training would be highly beneficial. Yakubu also commended the Kwara State Government for its support, which has facilitated the college’s development.
Chairman of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents, Mr. Olusegun Koiki, called on the state government to provide proper funding to make the college competitive. He recommended removing the institution from the civil service structure and appointing seasoned professionals to ensure its relevance and progress. “The IAC, as a specialized aviation training institution, should not be treated as an appendage of the Kwara State civil service,” Koiki said. “It requires top‑notch professionals in all segments of the aviation industry to stay on the right track.”
