Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Engages in Bilateral Talks at BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Summit

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held bilateral talks with his counterparts from Brazil, South Africa, Iran, Laos, Thailand, and Ethiopia on Monday during the BRICS foreign ministers’ summit in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.

The two-day summit, which took place on June 10-11, serves as a precursor to a major BRICS summit scheduled for October in Kazan, Russia, during Russia’s year of chairmanship.

In his meeting with Iran’s acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri, Lavrov expressed condolences for the deaths of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi and other government officials in a helicopter crash in May. Bagheri thanked Lavrov for Russia’s support during the tragedy.

Lavrov affirmed Moscow’s commitment to maintaining and developing mutually beneficial cooperation with Iran across various sectors. The discussions highlighted the importance of continuity and strong bilateral relations between the two nations.
