Bronx rapper Remy Ma has publicly responded to the news of her 23-year-old son, JaySon Scott, being charged with murder. In a statement released via TMZ, Remy Ma expressed her support for her first-born, emphasizing the importance of a thorough investigation to reveal the truth.
“We stand by JaySon’s innocence and pray that the NYPD will conduct a complete and thorough investigation to reveal the truth. This is undoubtedly a difficult time for my family and me. While we sincerely appreciate the love and support we have received from all of you, we kindly ask for privacy as our legal team works to prove JaySon’s innocence,” Remy Ma stated.
She added, “As his mother, I want to address this situation personally but have been strongly advised by his legal counsel not to say anything — as most people in similar situations are informed by their attorneys due to it being an active case.”
JaySon Scott, represented by attorney Dawn Florio, is accused of the 2021 murder of Darius Guillebeaux, 43, in Queens, NY. Alongside alleged accomplice Richard Swygert, 22, Scott faces charges of first-degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment. The incident, which occurred in broad daylight on June 7, 2021, saw Guillebeaux shot in the head and chest. Investigators are exploring the possibility of a murder-for-hire motive.
This legal battle comes a decade after Remy Ma’s own release from prison, following a six-year sentence for intentional assault. Convicted in 2007 for shooting a member of her entourage over $3,000, Remy Ma was released in 2014. Post-incarceration, she joined the cast of Love & Hip Hop, collaborated with Fat Joe on the Plata O Plomo album, and welcomed her youngest child, daughter Reminisce, with husband Papoose.
As the case unfolds, Remy Ma and her family seek privacy and justice, standing firm in their belief in JaySon’s innocence.
