Stop further action on Ekiti NASS candidates – Court orders PDP NWC, Ayu, others

A High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has restrained the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, its National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu; and the National Working Committee of the party from taking any further action against the earlier suspended National Assembly candidates of the party in Ekiti State.

The order was also extended to the State House of Assembly candidates of the party who were also suspended over alleged anti-party activities.

The court ordered the party’s decision makers to ‘maintain status quo’ following a motion filed by the suspended NASS candidates.

The order was given after a hearing before Honourable Justice E. B. Omotosho in Ado-Ekiti on February 2.

Media Talk Africa recalls that the main opposition party on January 20 suspended the Ekiti State Executive Committee, alongside several party members who are running for different positions in the state.

Following the party’s announcement, five suspended members including Ajijola Lateef Oladimeji (Ekiti Central), Olayinka James Olalere (Ekiti Central), Emiola Adenike Jennifer (Ekiti South II), Fayose Oluwajomiloju John (Ekiti Central I), and Akerele Oluyinka (Ekiti North I) had on January 27 filed a motion against the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Names of the five members had, prior to their suspension, been submitted to the electoral body as candidates for the National Assembly elections holding February 25.
