Manchester United missed the opportunity to close the gap on defending Premier League champions Manchester City, settling for a 2‑2 draw against Leeds United on Wednesday night. Leeds, who are currently without a manager, took the lead in the first minute when Wilfred Gnonto’s right‑footed shot from outside the box found the back of the net.
United entered the break trailing by one goal. Early in the second half, their defender Raphael Varane inadvertently doubled Leeds’ lead with an own goal in the 48th minute. However, United fought back: forward Marcus Rashford scored in the 62nd minute, and Jordan Sancho added a second in the 70th minute, bringing the match level.
Unable to secure a win, the Red Devils remain third in the league with 43 points, two points behind rivals Manchester City, who sit second with 45 points. Leeds are 16th on the table with 19 points.
