Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony Sparks “Challengers” Frenzy

Olympic Opening Ceremony Goes Viral for Steamy Scene

The 2024 Paris Olympics kicked off with a spectacular opening ceremony, featuring a parade of nations floating down the Seine, a torch bearer doing parkour through the Louvre, and even a literal decapitation of Marie Antoinette. However, it was a much smaller part of the performance that captured the attention of the internet.

A “steamy” scene, as described by opening ceremony commentators, showed three neon-clad dancers staring longingly at each other before quickly running into a private room. The scene was reminiscent of a key scene from director Luca Guadagnino’s tennis threesome blockbuster, “Challengers,” starring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist.

Twitter user @kasiakovacs summed up the internet’s reaction, writing, “Did I just watch the Challengers hotel scene at the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony?” The tweet has sparked a frenzy of responses, with many fans of the film expressing their excitement at seeing the scene reenacted at the Olympics.

Despite the excitement, viewers were left wanting more, as the camera cut away before the dancers could get up to anything too explicit. NBC’s hosts even let out a quiet gasp as the shot took over the screens, closing the segment with a succinct wrap-up: “Oh — We are uninvited.”

The scene has sparked debate online, with some fans praising the creative nod to the film, while others are left wondering what could have been. Regardless, it’s clear that the “Challengers Summer” is far from over, and fans are eager to see what other surprises the Olympics have in store.
