Lagos Governor Hails Peaceful Residents for Voicing Hunger, Hardship Protests

Lagos State Governor Praises Residents for Peaceful Protests Amidst Nationwide Hunger and Hardship

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended residents of the state for their peaceful disposition during the nationwide hunger and hardship protests. In a statement by the Commissioner in charge of the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, the governor expressed admiration for the protesters’ maintenance of law and order.

The statement noted that the protesters’ message of hunger and hardship has been heard loud and clear by the government. Omotoso also highlighted the slowdown of business in some parts of the state, which was attributed to the fear of hooligans and architects of anarchy. However, he praised Lagosians for choosing to embrace peace and shun the path of destruction while exercising their constitutional right to protest.

The governor also acknowledged the efforts of the Federal Government to address the food shortage, including the opening of the National Grains Reserve and the suspension of import duties on food items. He emphasized that the government is working with food distributors to ensure that citizens enjoy the resultant price reductions.

In addition, Sanwo-Olu announced that the popular Sunday Markets will return with a 25% discount on all major food items, and the Medical Outreach will also return. The government has also promised to continue ensuring that all expectant women enjoy free delivery in hospitals, and that the 25% slash in fares on all transport facilities will continue.

The governor urged protesters to call off their action, stating that their voice has been heard loud and clear. He also commended the professional conduct of all security agencies, including the Lagos State Police Command, the Department of State Services, the Military, the Civil Defence, Neighbourhood Watch, Community leaders, Religious leaders, and Resident Associations, who ensured that the peace was not compromised.

Sanwo-Olu concluded by assuring Lagosians that they can go about their businesses without fear, as security agents will continue to ensure the state’s safety and the smooth operation of businesses.
