Nigeria’s Conservative Party Condemns Fuel Price Hike

Nigerian Government Condemned for Fuel Price Hike

The Allied Conservative Congress (ACC) has strongly condemned the recent increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) by the Nigerian government. The party has demanded an immediate reversal of the price hike, citing the move as outrageous, insensitive, and imposing more hardship on citizens.

According to a statement signed by Rev. Olusegun Obaje Peters, the National Chairman of ACC, the fuel price hike will worsen the plights of citizens and further stagnate the economy. The party questioned the government’s decision to increase fuel prices soon after the #Endhungerprotest, stating that it appears to disregard the welfare of the people as provided for in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999.

The ACC emphasized that governments at all levels are obliged to deliver fruits and dividends of democracy, not hardship, hunger, and carnage. The party also highlighted that Nigerians voted for a fair deal and better life, not deprivation, destitution, and poverty. The government, according to ACC, exists to articulate and implement people-oriented policies, programs, and projects that will boost citizens’ standards of living, not to impoverish and frustrate them.

The party also urged the Federal Government to approve a licence to qualify Nigerians to build private refineries and remove all the bottlenecks in doing so. ACC promised a better Nigeria with conservative ideology if the party is elected in the next general elections.

The party’s statement read: "It is time to end hardship in the country through conservative governance. Nigerians desire and deserve compassionate leaders with the milk of human kindness."

The ACC’s condemnation of the fuel price hike comes as a response to the government’s decision to increase the price of petrol from ₦880 to above. The party has called for an immediate reversal of the price hike to ₦617, citing the government’s previous assurance that more supplies of petroleum products would bring down prices.

The ACC’s stance on the fuel price hike highlights the party’s commitment to conservative governance and its promise to deliver a better Nigeria. The party’s message is clear: Nigerians deserve better, and it is time for the government to prioritize their welfare and well-being.
