I have fulfilled all campaign promises to Nigerians – Buhari

Nigeria’s President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), announced that all the campaign promises he made to Nigerians in 2015 have been fulfilled. He made the declaration on Saturday while speaking at the seventh convocation of the Federal University, Oye‑Ekiti, in Ekiti State. Represented at the event by the Minister of State for Education, Goodluck Nanah Opiah, Buhari said his administration had delivered progress in the economy, education, security, anti‑corruption and other areas.

Buhari emphasized that his 2015 campaign was built on three core promises: improving security, strengthening the economy, and combating corruption. “It is with immense gratitude to Almighty Allah that I can boldly say we have delivered on the three promises,” he declared. He noted that at his inauguration the country was “practically under the siege of terrorism and other forms of insecurity,” but asserted that the war against terrorism has been fought and won, with all territories lost to extremist groups now reclaimed. “Terrorism in Nigeria today is breathing its last breath,” he added.

Regarding the economy, Buhari claimed that under his watch Nigeria rose from the brink of near‑economic collapse to being recognised as the largest economy on the African continent. He described this achievement as the result of a well‑orchestrated development plan rather than a given outcome.

On corruption, Buhari said the problem had “held the country by the jugular” before he assumed office. He highlighted his administration’s reforms, including the introduction of the Treasury Single Account, the whistle‑blowing policy, and the intensification of prosecutions by anti‑corruption agencies.

In education, Buhari asserted that his government had rebuilt the sector through increased funding for human capital and infrastructural expansion. While acknowledging that it is impossible to channel all available funds to education, he pointed out that his administration has been incrementally raising education budgets each year.
