Hoodlums attacked and destroyed the tithe box and other property of the Motailatu Church of God, Oke‑Idahun Parish, in the Imafon Community of Akure North Local Government Area. The church, which belongs to the Cherubim and Seraphim denomination, was targeted on Friday, and the perpetrators set fire to several items inside the building.
Rev. David Akinadewo‑Adekahunsi, the church’s resident minister, described the damage when he arrived at the premises that evening. He said the first thing he noticed was a damaged lectern on the altar and broken bottles scattered throughout the auditorium. Many of the church’s plastic chairs and offering trays had been burned, and hymn books and other items stored in a room of the unfinished church building were also destroyed. The prayer room suffered damage to its window nets, although the attackers could not gain entry because of the burglary‑proof security; however, the tithe box was vandalized.
The incident has been reported to the Oda Police Division in Akure, and Rev. Akinadewo‑Adekahunsi was assured that the culprits will be apprehended. State Police Public Relations Officer Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami confirmed the attack but said she has not yet received full details. “I will get back as soon as the DPO sends me the full details,” she said.
